COVERAGE OF THE TENNESSEE OPEN CHECKER TOURNAMENT 6-8 MARCH 2009

Fifty-three contestants completed their games in the Tennessee Open Checker Tournament held at the Americas Best Value Inn & Suites in Lebanon, Tennessee, 6-8 March 2009. The tournament was divided into three divisions, Master, Major, and Minor. A breakdown of the contestants by division is listed below - Scroll down.

The late Gene Lindsay, a long time supporter, promoter, and master of the classic game of checkers honored.

"Gene Lindsay was honored on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Tennessee State Open. Gene left a portion of his estate to the checker world. The group expressed their appreciation to Betty Vanover, a long time friend of Gene's" Frank Davis - President/Director Tennessee Open and Mary Davis - Secretary/Treasurer Tennessee Open.

The celebration to Gene Lindsay, and with Jasmine Jones, 16 years old, winner of the minor tournament, and Alex Holmes, 10 years old, fifth in the minors. Both are future world champions." Hugh Burton was the State Champion of Tennessee thirty-nine times.
