The North Carolina District 4 Checker tournament in Lexington, NC ended about 3:00 PM today, Saturday, November 1. Wives of the players who attended (left to right in the below photo) were Mrs. Shultz, Mrs. Michael, Mrs. McClintock, Mrs. Gain, and Mrs. Parks. Mrs. McClintock with the help of the other ladies prepared and served delicious meals for the players. Names of the players are also given below with their scores in RED opposite their names. Tim Laverty was the winner of the tournament, followed by Teal Stanley, 2nd place, and Bill McClintock, 3rd Place. J.R. Smith will have details on his web site at www.nccheckers.org. Last but not least, Ray Shelly with his magnificent voice entertained all present with old gospel songs during a break in checker playing. Many of the songs were very familiar and were regularly sung when I was a youngster some seventy-five years ago. I recorded several of the songs that Ray Shelly sang (audio and video) which I now have on DVD.
